Undesrstand-How-Companies-Recruit-To-Better-Land-A-Job

Your job search seems simple, right? You apply to open positions, meet their interview requirements, and get the job offer. But it may be more complicated than that. Companies use a lot of funnels to find the top talent in the greater Seattle area, so it’s important to know how to be seen by the right people at the right time. To better understand how a company’s recruiter sources top talent, here are some of the places they look for job seekers.

The Company Website

Always review the careers section of the company website. Some companies have many candidates apply, so they have to prioritize how they review resumes. Many will put more weight on a resume submitted directly through their careers section. You can also sign up for email or text alerts about new jobs as they’re posted.

Job Boards

While it may seem like the major job boards have been replaced by new media, they’re still used by many companies. Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed and more are all still popular with companies. Be sure to review them regularly for new positions and apply using the directions in each job post to be seen by their hiring managers.

Job Search Engines

The next generation of job search is job search engines. These are things like Google for Jobs. When you google a job title and region you now see a listing of open positions right in your web browser. Companies can’t post directly to search engines, they get optimized through other sources, but they are a huge benefit for companies.

LinkedIn

Even if you never use it for networking, having a complete profile on LinkedIn is essential for your job search. Recruiters and hiring managers do use the service to find top talent, so you want to make sure you can be seen there.

Social Media

Companies are increasingly reliant on social media for tapping into local talent. They respond to people who interact with them on the top platforms, such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. They may post jobs on these sites, as well, so it’s a good idea to check with their pages regularly.

Referrals

If you know someone who can help you get a foot in the door with a desired company, use that referral. Companies like to hire people who are recommended by current employees or trusted members of their network. Tapping into this network may get your resume viewed faster by the hiring manager.

Staffing Agencies

Of course, many companies turn to local staffing agencies to help them source and hire candidates in the Seattle area. They may reach out to an agency first before they post the position on other channels. Or they may rely on agency recruiters once they feel they’ve exhausted their efforts. In either case, it’s a good idea to establish yourself with a staffing agency to be considered for opportunities they receive.
